Three Days in the Dales

Reeth 3 Day Trial

Three days. Three courses. Close to a hundred sections across Swaledale and Arkengarthdale. Richmond Motor Club's summer classic is one of the best weekends in the trials calendar, on the bike and off it.

Swaledale's Summer Classic

A Proper Trials Weekend

Every summer, trials riders and their families arrive in the village of Reeth for three days of riding in some of the best trials country in Britain. Each day has its own course, laid out across a different part of the Dales: stony becks, steep gills and open moor.

Every day is scored on its own sections, and the marks add up across all three days. Consistency wins it. One bad day can undo two good ones, so the scores stay tight to the end.

It's a national-level event that still feels like a club trial. Local riders and some of the biggest names in the sport share the same sections, the same paddock and the same bar at the end of the day.

How the Weekend Runs

Day by Day

Three separate courses, one combined score. This is how a typical Reeth weekend goes.

01

Day One

Find Your Rhythm

The first course sets the tone. Riders settle into the terrain, the observers get their eye in, and by the evening the first provisional scores are up and the paddock is talking about them.

02

Day Two

Where It's Won

A fresh course on new ground. Legs are tired, bikes have taken a hammering, and every mark counts. Halfway through the weekend, the leaders start to break away.

03

Day Three

Bring It Home

The final course decides it. Scores from all three days are added together, the overall results are confirmed, and the awards are handed out to finish the weekend.

Routes & Classes

Entry Info

Reeth isn't just for experts. There are routes for a wide range of abilities and classes for modern and classic bikes. Check the regulations for each year's event for the exact classes on offer.

Hard Course

The full test for experienced riders, with expert, intermediate and novice classes so you're scored against riders at your level.

Clubman Course

Still a real challenge, but with lines that reward smooth, tidy riding. Popular with club riders who want a big weekend without the hardest sections.

Clubman A / Green

The most approachable route, ideal if you're newer to trials or stepping up to your first multi-day event. Same scenery, same atmosphere.

Twinshock

Dedicated classes for twinshock machines, so riders on older bikes compete on a level footing.

Pre-65

Classic bikes on classic ground. Pre-65 riders get their own classes and plenty of admirers in the paddock.

All Ages Welcome

Riders of every age take part, from younger riders on the easier routes to veterans who've been coming back for years.

Life in the Paddock

The Reeth 3 Day is as much about the weekend as the riding. The paddock fills with vans, motorhomes and awnings, and for three days Reeth turns into a trials village of riders, families, mechanics and friends.

When the riding's done, people head to The Last Section Bar, the club's own marquee. It's warm, the drinks are reasonably priced and everyone's talking about the sections. Plenty of riders say it's their favourite part of the weekend.

Who Rides Reeth

Clubmen to World Stars

The entry list covers the whole sport. Local club riders line up alongside national champions, and international stars have made the trip to Swaledale too. Riders like Richard Sadler have made the overall win and the Cliff Addison Trophy their own.

Wherever you finish, you'll have ridden the same sections as the best riders in the country. That's what keeps people coming back.

Watch It

Spectators are welcome. Base yourself in Reeth, pick a section and watch some brilliant riding in stunning scenery. Please stick to rights of way, follow marshals' directions and leave gates as you find them.

Help Run It

Three days of trials needs a lot of observers. Even one day helps, and no experience is needed. You'll get a great view of the riding and the thanks of every rider who passes your section.

Thank You

Respecting the Dales

None of this happens without the landowners, tenant farmers and gamekeepers who let us ride on their land, and the people of Reeth who welcome us every summer. Please respect that by sticking to the course, the rights of way and the Countryside Code.

The trial depends on the moors being safe to ride. In very dry summers, moorland fire risk can affect the event, so always check the latest news before you travel.
